Eligibility Requirements

  • From cultural and artistic activities (D-1) to specific activities (E-7), the spouses and minor children (only in the absence of a spouse) of individuals with residency (F-2), overseas Korean (F-4), and visiting employment (H-2) visa statuses are included. However, those with a training visa (D-3) are excluded.
  • Activities accompanying the stay of the primary visa holder as a dependent family member

    Employment Restrictions
    In principle, engaging in profit-making activities (employment) is prohibited. If you wish to work, you must obtain prior permission for activities outside your residency status or change to a different residency status that permits employment. Unauthorized employment may result in the cancellation of your residency status or subject you to deportation.

    Restriction of Activity Scope
    Only activities related to accompanying family members of the primary visa holder are permitted, and independent economic activities or activities related to the primary purpose of residence are not allowed.

    Duration of Stay Limitation
    The duration of stay may not exceed that of the original visa holder, and in cases where the duration of stay of the original visa holder is shortened, expired, or canceled, the same will apply.

    Change of Residence Status
    If a primary visa holder changes their visa status, the accompanying person's visa status must also be adjusted accordingly or they must separately meet the residency requirements. Failure to meet these requirements may result in restrictions on the extension of their stay.

    Conditions for Loss of Qualification
    In the event that the marital relationship with a spouse is terminated (due to divorce, death, etc.) or if a minor child reaches adulthood, the accompanying requirements for the F-3 visa status will no longer be met, and it will not be possible to maintain the F-3 residency status. You must either change your residency status or depart the country.

Exceptions & Special Conditions

  • Qualified for Technical Training (D-3)
    Excluded from the accompanying (F-3) category.
  • Family members of E-1, E-3, E-4, E-5, F-4, and H-2 visa holders.
    Exemption from the submission of documents proving livelihood maintenance ability and residence.
  • Spouse of a Highly Skilled Individual under the Points System (F-2-7)
    Only legally recognized spouses are acknowledged (de facto relationships are not recognized).
  • Minor children of outstanding talents under the points-based system (F-2-7)
    The principal resident must hold parental rights and custody.
  • Technical Training (D-3) Visa Holders
    Excluded from the accompanying (F-3) category.
  • Enrollment in regular educational institutions (elementary, middle, high school, university)
    No separate permission for activities outside the residence status is required within the duration of stay.
  • Re-entry (Registered Foreigners, within 1 year after departure)
    Exemption from re-entry permit (within the duration of stay if the stay period is less than 1 year)
  • Entry Restriction Individuals and Visa Issuance Restriction Individuals
    You must visit the relevant office before re-entering the country to obtain re-entry permission.
  • Nationals of Saudi Arabia, Iran, and Libya
    Restrictions on multiple re-entries (However, F-6, D-2, and D-4 are permitted)

Extension

When applying for an extension of stay, please submit the application form, passport, alien registration card, fee, proof of residence, and the alien registration card of your spouse or parent.

Status Change
Humanitarian Cases: Among those requiring humanitarian consideration due to pregnancy, childbirth, or illness, B-1, B-2, short-term visa entrants, and legally residing long-term foreigners in the country
To F1 For H2 F4 Family: Spouses and minor children of visiting workers (H-2), as well as minor children of overseas Koreans (F-4) under 25 years old (excluding married individuals), can change to visiting family (F-1).
To Professional Status: Spouses of professional foreign workers (E-1 to E-5, E-6 excluding 6-2, E-7) can change to a similar professional occupation.
Workplace Change
